"I Will Not Forget"

You worked hard
You faced upheavals
You fought
You hid
You sacrificed
You suffered
You struggled
You moved
You adapted
You changed
You converted
You endured
You did what you had to
You did all you could think to do

Because you wanted me to live

Ugodidi Wado, my ancestors
I will not forget you.

I watched a video on Facebook today posted by a Lakota man. The thanks I wrote above were inspired by the comments he wrote when he posted the video:
"No matter how much I hurt, no matter how hard life gets, I remember and think of my ancestors and know that their sacrifices and struggles were for my survival and the survival of our people ... I never forget their memory."
