"Mother Waits"

Sometimes as I walk
I see the bark of trees
—and weep—
I feel part of them
A relative

At moments I can see
I'm a part of all nature
—I can feel it—
Growing, feeling
Alive and aware

Once when walking underground
at a northern Osaka station
—I recoiled—
It was surreal, for I was surrounded
by concrete, so far from the Earth

Once I saw a lone evergreen
Standing tall, but choking
—alone and hurting—
I laid my hand on it
Praying and reassuring

A day of freedom is coming
The Earth shall rejoice
The trees will clap their hands
The mountains and hills will skip with joy
—all shall be healed.
